Platícalo: Spanish and English chat translator for WhatsApp Web

Read Spanish chats in English, right under each message. Start with 30 free translations. No card needed.

Platícalo is a browser extension for WhatsApp Web. It is made for talking with family and friends who write in Spanish, especially Mexican Spanish. Get it free from the Chrome Web Store.

How it works

Sample chat: English translation shown under a Spanish message

1. Read

Press Translate under a message. The English shows up right below it, in big, clear text. Emojis, numbers and money amounts stay the same.

2. Keep it simple

One switch per chat turns it on or off. Everything else is tucked under More.

3. Free to start

You get 30 free translations in total (lifetime, per verified email), no card needed. After that, Platícalo Pro is US$2.99/month or US$29/year. Fair use: up to 1,500 messages a day per account.

Pricing

  • Free: 30 translations total, no card. Not per day, and no trial period.
  • Pro: US$2.99/month or US$29/year.

How to install

  1. Open the Platícalo listing in the Chrome Web Store on your computer.
  2. Click Add to Chrome, then Add extension.
  3. Click the puzzle-piece icon at the top right of Chrome.
  4. Click the pin next to Platícalo so it stays in your toolbar.
  5. Open web.whatsapp.com. The first time, read the short consent screen and press agree. Then turn on the switch for a chat and press Translate under a message.

Your privacy, in plain words

  • Before anything is sent, Platícalo shows a one-time screen that explains what happens and asks if you agree.
  • The text you choose is sent through our server to Google's Gemini API to translate it, under Google's API terms. We delete our copy within 24 hours.
  • We never log message text or save it to disk. Translations stay in server memory for up to 24 hours, then are deleted. Your IP address is used only for rate limiting: kept in server memory, deleted within about 2 minutes, never logged.
  • To use your free translations, you confirm your email with a 6-digit code. Payments for Pro are handled by Stripe.
