Platícalo privacy policy

This policy covers the Platícalo browser extension and the server it uses. Platícalo is made by G & K Strategies LLC, doing business as Atlas Operator AI ("we", "us"), 117 S Lexington St, Harrisonville, MO 64701. Platícalo has a free allowance and an optional paid plan (Platícalo Pro). For our website, see the Atlas Operator AI privacy policy.

What Platícalo does

Platícalo has one purpose: to translate chat messages between Spanish and English on web.whatsapp.com, when you ask it to. With a confirmed email you get 30 free translations in total. Platícalo Pro (US$2.99 a month or US$29 a year, plus any tax) allows up to 1,500 a day.

You agree first

The first time you use Platícalo, a one-time consent screen explains what is sent and where. Nothing is sent, no anonymous ID is created, and no email is asked for, until you agree.

In short: We never log message text or save it to disk. Translations stay in server memory for up to 24 hours, then are deleted. Your IP address is used only for rate limiting: kept in server memory, deleted within about 2 minutes, never logged (for the sign-up limit, kept only as a scrambled code for up to about 2 hours). Your email is used only to send you a sign-in code and for your account and billing.

Message text

  • What is sent: only the text of the messages you press Translate on. Platícalo never reads other chats, never sends messages and never touches the Send button.
  • Where it goes: to our translation server, hosted on Railway. From there it goes to Google's Gemini API, and the translation comes back to you.
  • On our server: message text is never logged and never written to disk. Translations are kept in server memory for up to 24 hours, looked up by a scrambled code (a SHA-256 hash) of the text. Expired entries are deleted every minute, so nothing outlives 24 hours plus about 1 minute. A server restart clears everything.
  • Google: The text you choose is sent to Google's Gemini API to translate it, under Google's API terms. We delete our copy within 24 hours. See Google's Gemini API terms.

IP address

Your IP address is used only for rate limiting, to prevent abuse. For the per-minute limit it is kept in server memory, and old entries are deleted every minute, so it is gone within about 2 minutes. For the sign-up limit (how many codes and new accounts one connection can request per hour), we keep only a scrambled code of the IP address (an HMAC-SHA-256 hash with a secret key), not the address itself, in server memory for up to about 2 hours. Neither is ever logged or written to disk.

Email address and sign-in code

  • Why: to get the 30 free translations, you enter your email. We email you a 6-digit code to confirm the address is yours. Your free translations and any Pro plan are attached to your account only after you enter the right code. Each email gets the free 30 only once.
  • The code: it works for 10 minutes and allows 5 tries. We store it only as a scrambled value (an HMAC-SHA-256 hash), in server memory, never on disk, and delete it when it is used, when it expires, or when the server restarts.
  • The email address: stored in our account database (below) for as long as you have an account. We use it only to send sign-in codes, to link your Pro plan, and to answer you if you write to us. We never send marketing email and never sell or share it.
  • Sending: the code email is sent by Resend (our email provider). It is plain text with no images, links or tracking. Resend keeps a record of the email (address, subject and text, which includes the code) for up to 30 days to run its service.

Payments (Platícalo Pro)

  • Payments are handled by Stripe on its own secure checkout page. Your card details go to Stripe, never to us.
  • Stripe collects your email, payment details and billing country or address (needed to work out sales tax), under the Stripe privacy policy.
  • From Stripe we keep only: your Stripe customer ID, which plan you have, and the date your plan is paid until. Stripe sends us notices when you subscribe, renew, fail a payment or cancel, so we can turn Pro on or off.

Account ID and account record

After you agree, our server creates a random, signed anonymous ID. It is saved in your browser and sent with each translation request. A Railway database (SQLite on a Railway volume) stores the account ID, your confirmed email address (after sign-up), the plan (free or Pro), how many free translations you have used, your daily count with its date (Pro), and for Pro your Stripe customer ID and paid-until date. No name, phone number or message content is stored.

On your device

Chrome extension storage holds the consent flag, your on/off setting and translation direction for each chat, the account ID and the email you entered. Uninstalling the extension removes them.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or share your data.
  • We do not show ads.
  • We do not use your data for anything other than translation.
  • We do not use your data to decide creditworthiness or for lending.

Platícalo's use of information received from the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Processors

  • Railway – hosting and database.
  • Google – Gemini API, under Google's API terms.
  • Resend – sends the sign-in code email.
  • Stripe – payments, receipts and sales tax for Platícalo Pro.

Deleting your data

  • By email address: write to atlas.operator.ai@gmail.com from the address you signed up with and we will delete your account record. If you have Pro, cancel it first from your Stripe receipt; Stripe keeps payment records as the law requires.
  • Still installed, no email given: email us and include your anonymous ID, and we will delete that record. To find the ID: open chrome://extensions, find Platícalo, click service worker, then go to Application → Storage and copy the value of the key token. We plan to add an easier button later.
  • Already uninstalled, no email given (ID lost): the copy in your browser is gone. The record on our server holds only a random ID, the plan "free" and counts, with no name, email or other identifier. We cannot match it to you, and it cannot be used to identify you. Email us anyway and we will confirm this.

Children

Platícalo is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update this page and its date.

Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, USA.
